I can't believe it's been over 2 months since I've posted anything on my blog! I do apologize to those who read my posts, it's been a long and stressful summer. My frustration was out of control for awhile with school quickly approaching and with people moving in and out of my life at the speed of light. Now hardened to these adjustments (and many more) in my life, I am left with 10 days until school, people I don't want to leave behind, and more work to do than is even going to be possible. All of this stress and the heat of summer has made my skin far less than stellar - BUT ironically I have a lot of stuff to share with you guys about skin care today!
As many of you know I don't have acne prone skin - AT ALL. That doesn't mean I don't have an occasional breakout here and there, but it is never anything major. I have a lot of people ask me how I keep my skin so healthy, and while it's just something I've been blessed with, I do harbour a few tricks of the trade. First, I know it's tempting to buy skin care products from Ulta or department stores such as Nordstrom. I, too, am guilty of assuming a face wash with a $35 price tag has to be better than the $10 alternative at your local drug store, but the truth is - it's not! More expensive skin care products have more ingredients in them (that's why the price is bumped up!). Products like these tend to be more oil based and fragrant - an enemy to those people with sensitive or acne-prone skin. Skip high-end skin care products and look for cheaper alternatives that have less oil or are completely oil free; it usually says this somewhere on the bottle or packaging. One thing that really makes me cringe is when people with acne-prone skin slather on foundation to cover the spots. To those people: WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Look, I understand that it can be embarrassing to sport that natural look in a situation like that but by packing makeup on top of it, you are making it so much worse! I don't know if anyone else shares this opinion but I think it would be worth it to have people see a few flaws if it meant clearing up the problem for good. If you're one of these people my advice would be to STOP IT, THAT'S DUMB! But if you just can't help yourself, find makeup products that are non-comedogenic (products specially designed to not clog skin pores). This term should also be printed somewhere on the packaging. My last tidbit of advice would be to not over-do your skin care routine, and stick with the same line of products. Using a combination of face washes, acne creams, and benzoyl pads will do more harm to your skin than good. Using too many of these items will dry out your skin beyond belief; and did you know that having dry skin actually causes breakouts as well? Never use such products together; use one in the morning and one at night - NO MORE than that! Also, if you're using more than one skin care product, make sure they're all the same brand. Using products that are all the same brand will ensure that they are all working together to improve your skin and not working against eachother. If I think of anything else, I will share it with you. And if you guys have any advice please let me know and I will share that, too! -Leslie ♡ |
